MILAN — Robert R. Russ, 80, of Milan, died Wednesday morning in Stein Hospice Care Center, following a brief illness.
He was born April 26, 1927 in Berlinville, Ohio. He attended Milan High School.
Robert was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Chapin and Chapin and T.J. Hume, owned and operated Bob’s Gulf Service Station in Milan, and retired from the Ohio Turnpike Commission. He served in the Navy during World War II on the USS Ingraham.
He was a member of Edison Memorial United Methodist Church, past member and President of the Norwalk Eagles, Past President of the Lions Club, IOOF, and a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Wilma Jean (Doerner); his daughter, Nancy (Tom) Gfell, Milan, OH; his son, Gary (Lisa) Russ, Gahanna, OH; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters, Juanita (William) Lambert, Milan, OH and Kathleen (Andre) LaVine, Milan; nieces, nephews and other family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Irene (Greenhoe) Russ and his grandson, Matthew Gfell on Dec. 3, 2004.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Groff Funeral Home, 1 South Main St., Milan. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Edison Memorial United Methodist Church, 10 E. Church St., Milan. The Rev. Jeffery Stoll will officiate. Burial will follow in Milan Cemetery.
