SANDUSKY — Robert M. Harwood, 88, of Willard, died Monday in Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky.

He was born Nov. 16, 1919, in Keyser, W.Va., the only child of the late Robert and Evelyn (Martin) Harwood.

His father and grandfather worked for the B&O Railroad and he moved with his family to Willard when he was 4-years-old.

He was a 1938 graduate of Willard High School.  He served as a sergeant with the Army in Europe during World War II and joined Willard United Bank upon his discharge in 1946.

He spent his entire career at the bank and was president when he retired. He was a graduate of Tiffin University, a member of the Ohio Bankers Association, a 32nd degree Mason, and a long-time member of the Willard Country Club and the First United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and by his wife of 60 years, Alli H. (Ojanen) Harwood, who died April 14, 2004.  

He is survived by his sons, Robert (Karolyn) Harwood, of Woodbridge, Conn., David (Deborah) Harwood of Willard, and James (Patti) Harwood, of Clarksville, Tenn.; a daughter, Pamela J. (Thomas) Snyder of Marion; nine grandchildren and two great-grandsons.  

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Secor Funeral Home in Willard, where funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Ken Gifford officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
