MILAN — Robert Lee (Bob) Stein, 79, died Monday after a brief illness.
He was born Oct. 18, 1928 to Gladys and Leo Foos, and married Mary Katherine Collier in 1951.
He graduated from Milan High School in 1946. He was a CPA and was employed by Dale Olsen & Company for 17 years. He then founded Stein Accounting and Computer Services in Norwalk in 1972, and was president of the firm until he retired in 1998. He thoroughly enjoyed vegetable, fruit and flower gardening. He and Mary also enjoyed, and are well known for, their many varieties of beautiful irises. He was a lifelong member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Milan, where he was active in maintaining the accounting records for many years, served several terms on the parish council, and taught religious education. He was also a member of the Milan and Berlin-Milan School Boards for 12 years, during which time he served a term as president. He was instrumental in the formation of Edison High School and the construction of its facility near Milan.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Stein; daughters, Marilyn Slivka (Jerry) and Joanne Long (Jim); sons Jim Stein (Peggy), John Stein (Jan), Mark Stein (Melissa), and Alan Stein (Tammy); five granddaughters, 10 grandsons, and 1 great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leo Foos; stepfather Charles Stein; mother Gladys May Foos Stein, and sister Barbara Stein Swinehart.
Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Groff Funeral Home, 1 S. Main St., Milan, with liturgical services at 8:30.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, with prayers at the funeral home, followed by a 10:30 Mass of Christian Burial at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 130 Main St., Milan, with the Rev. Frank Speier celebrating.
Burial will follow in St. Anthony’s church cemetery.
