NORWALK — Ray Wetzel, 86, of Norwalk, died suddenly at home Monday.

He was born April 8, 1921 in Milan, son of Peter and Maddie (McKenzie) Wetzel. He attended school in Milan.

He worked for Landmark, delivering feed to local farmers. He married Mamie (Shingleton) Wetzel on May 18, 1957 and she preceded him in death in February 1991. He married his second wife, Betty, on Aug. 21, 1993 and she survives him.

As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, he enjoyed attending Christian meetings, studying the scriptures and sharing his Bible-based beliefs with others.

He was known as a happy and generous man who was always willing to lend a hand. He also loved children. His hobbies included fishing, playing cards and putting together puzzles. In his younger years, he loved dancing and was a regular visitor at the Cedar Point ballroom.

He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his wife Betty, he is survived by his stepchildren and their spouses, Gary and Margie Kerr of Mount Vernon, Ky., Rita Kerr of Ashland, Martha and Luis Miranda of Tempe, Ariz., Paul and Beth Kerr of Utica, and Deborah and Tim Wozniak of Sandusky; a sister-in-law, Verna Wetzel; numerous step-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, step-nieces and step-nephews; and siblings of his first wife, Sud and Mildred Bartlett of Sebring, Fla., Sylvia Hovatter of Norwalk, Raymond Shingleton of Norwalk and Ella Mae Pritt of Springfield.

In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, Roy Wetzel; a stepson, Dennis Kerr; and nine siblings of his first wife.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk, where a memorial service will take place at 6 p.m. with William Morr, an elder in the English Norwalk Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, officiating. Private burial will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery, Norwalk.
