NORWALK — Mollie Sturgill, 86, of Norwalk, died Saturday at the home of her great-niece and care giver, Debbie May of Greenwich.
She was born Nov. 17, 1921 in Hueysville, Ky., to the late Malcolm and Arminta (Allen) Horn.
She attended elementary and secondary school in Kentucky and graduated from New Haven High School and returned to Kentucky. She attended Lee’s College in Jackson, Ky. and graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in education. She was an educator and had taught in the Berlin-Milan Public Schools. She retired in 1986 from the New London Public Schools.
She enjoyed reading, current events, politics, history and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her daughters and son-in-law, Sharon K. and Alex MacNicol of Milan and Charlene Sturgill and Elaine Sturgill, both of Norwalk; several grandchildren and a great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her son, Larry Joe Sturgill in 1985; her brothers, Morton Horn, Orville Horn, Rev. James Horn and Grant Horn and by her sister, Edith Price.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Bob Hudberg officiating. Interment will be in Milan Cemetery.
