WILLARD — Melvin G. Phillips, 69, of North Greenfield Road, Willard, died Wednesday, at the Cleveland Clinic following a lengthy illness.
He was born March 28, 1938 in Willard, son of the late Eugene and Anna (Gwirtz) Phillips. He had been a lifelong Willard resident. He served in the Marine Corps.
He owned and operated the M.G. Phillips trucking Company. He was a member of the St. Gaspar del Bufalo Catholic Church, a member of the Willard American Legion and a member of the Bellevue Eagles Club.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Deibert) Phillips, whom he married on May 22, 1965; sons and daughters-in-law, Melvin M. and Cathy Phillips of Fremont; Brian and Tracy Phillips of Attica; seven grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Delores and Don Heil of Tiffin; a brother and sister-in-law, Gerald and Dian Phillips of Willard; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Secor Funeral Home in Willard, where there will a prayer service at 1:45 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Gaspar del Bufalo Catholic Church in Marywood, with the Rev. Paul A. Fahrbach officiating.
Burial will follow in St. Sebastian Catholic Cemetery in Bismark.
