SANDUSKY — Max J. Osterling, III, age 72, of Collins, died Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at the Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky.

He was born June 4, 1936 in Cleveland to the late Max and Alice (Andrews) Osterling.

He attended Huron High School, where he played on Huron’s only state championship football team in 1954, and was on its first wrestling team.

He and his family owned and operated Osters Restaurant in Huron and Midpoint Steel and Fabricating.

He was a member of the Huron United Methodist Church and the Ludlow Sportsman Club, and a retired member of the Huron Fire Department. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their school events. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He owns a Pennsylvania hunting camp, where he spent a great deal of time with his family and his close friends.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, JeanAnn Osterling of Collins; sons, Steve (Chris) Osterling of Huron, and Jeffrey (Lori) Osterling of Litchfield; daughter, Shelley (Tim) Ringle of Huron; sister, Marlene (Kenneth) Gadd of Huron; daughter-in-law, Karen Osterling of Huron; seven grandchildren, Corey, Chelsey, Alexandra, Samuel, Adam, Ashleigh, and Wyatt; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son, Max “Christopher” Osterling; his parents; and one sister, Geraldine Abcock.

Friends may call on Thursday from 5 – 9 P.M. at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main Street, Norwalk. A funeral service will be held Friday at 11:00 A.M. in the funeral home with the Rev. Roger Skelley-Watts officiating. Burial will follow at Scott Cemetery in Huron.
