NORWALK — Margaret Lucy (Pifher) Mirtes, 99, of Norwalk, died Thursday at Norwalk Memorial Home.
She was born Sept. 1, 1908 in North Auburn to the late John and Mary (Burger) Pifher. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Norwalk and its Altar and Rosary Society and the Daughters of Isabella.
She enjoyed the Norwalk Senior Center and was involved in the kitchen band and square dancing. She also traveled and enjoyed golfing.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Barbara (John C.) Wagner of Milan; sons and daughters-in-law, Harold Mirtes of Norwalk, Arthur (Catherine) Mirtes of Huron and Edward (Janie) Mirtes of Tullahoma, Tenn; 17 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; sister, Justina Hay of Monroeville; daughter-in-law, Betty Mirtes of Norwalk; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Mirtes in 1974; son, Donald J. Mirtes in 2003; a granddaughter in infancy, Amy Marie; brothers, George, John and Isadore Pifher; brother-in-law, Clarence Hay; sisters, Coletta Studer, Veronica Weithman, Patronella Durnwald, Celeste Wechter and Germaine Etzwiler.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main St., Norwalk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main St., Norwalk. The Rev. David Cirata, associate pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Paul Catholic Cemetery.
