NORWALK — Loretta M. Sommers, 70, of Norwalk, died Monday in her home following a brief illness.
She was born July 13, 1937 in Norwalk to the late Carl and Mable (Miller) Kramer and was a lifelong area resident.
She graduated from Norwalk Schools in 1955. She was a volunteer for Fisher-Titus Medical center for many years before she went to work full time. She retired from Fisher Titus Medical Center in 2003.
She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and the Bronson Norwalk Conservation League. She was a former 4-H adviser for the Hot Diggitty Dogs 4-H Club.
She was a devoted wife of 50 years, mother and grandmother and was well known for being a seamstress. She made anything from wedding dresses to mending and quilting. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, playing cards and games with her fiends until she became ill.
She is survived by her husband, Norman A. Sommers, whom she married June 1, 1957; her children, Michael A. and Tammy Sommers, Sharon R. Sommers, Rodney C. and Becky Sommers, all of Norwalk, and Dennis E. and Tina Sommers of Sandusky; six grandchildren and four step-grandchildren; siblings, Rosemary and Robert Frederick of Bellevue, Irene Kerr of Moline, Ill., Melvin and Barb Kramer of Collins, Audrey and Ronald Beaudry of Noel, Mo., and Albert and Mary Lou Kramer of Norwalk; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy; and a grandson, Mathew.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk where rosary services will be held at 3:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main St., Norwalk, with the Rev. Frank Kehres officiating. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery.
