SPRINGFIELD — Kathleen M. Steffanni, 66, of Springfield and formerly of Norwalk, died early Wednesday morning at Good Shepherd Village Nursing Center in Springfield.

She was born Jan. 16, 1942 in Milan to the late Ross C. and Anne (Wargo) Hayes and was a lifelong area resident before moving to Springfield five years ago.

 She was a member of the former Norwalk Church of the Nazarene and the Springfield Church of the Nazarene.

She was a life member of Firelands Post 2743 Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary and Ken Bur Bell Post 41 American Legion Auxiliary.

Her world revolved around her children and grandchildren and she enjoyed collecting owls, elephants, playing bingo (even in the Nursing Center), cooking, playing cards, and her flower gardens.

She is survived by her husband, Edward F. Steffanni Sr. of Norwalk; sons and daughters-in-law, Isadore “Izzy” and Deborah Steffanni of Norwalk and Edward F. and Jennifer Steffanni II of Springfield; daughters and son-in-law, Amy “Jimmy” and Brian Maestas of Norwalk and Maryann Krisha of Chicago; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sisters, Judy McCusker of Pennsylvania, Mary Ella “Fritzie” Pittenger of Norwalk and Patricia Galloway, also of Norwalk; her foster brother, Thomas Clegg of Charlotte, Mich. and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her step-father, Merwin Mead Bailey; step-mother, Thelma Hayes; step-brother, Wayne Mesick and by her foster brother, Lester Clegg.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. to Noon Saturday at Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk. Graveside services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Bogart Road, Huron with the Rev. Michael Adkins officiating.
