WILLARD - Helen C. VanBuskirk, age 97, of Greenwich, died Saturday, June 21, 2008 at Hillside Acres Nursing Home, Willard.
She was born November 27, 1910 in Summit Station, Ohio, daughter of the late Clinton Ray and Pearl (Connell) Fishbaugh. She lived in Columbus as a small girl, then lived in Shelby and when she was 12 years old moved to Greenwich in February 1922. She had worked at Santi-All and Guy Wells Dry Goods both of Greenwich.
Helen and her husband owned and operated Van's Sunoco Gas Station from 1950 until they retired in 1975.
She was a member of the Greenwich United Methodist Church, was a girl scout leader for more than 25 years, was a member of the O.E.S. Althea Chapter 438 Monroeville since 1942. Helen also belonged to Just-A-Mere Bridge Club and the Twentieth Century Reading Circle for many years.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Connie (Jake) Hackworth of Huron and Jean Laser of Willard; her son, Robert VanBuskirk of Greenwich; 4 grandsons and 1 granddaughter; 5 Great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl R. VanBuskirk in 1995, 2 sisters, Mildred and Thelma; 4 brothers, Fred, Maurice, Clinton Ray and Kenneth Fishbaugh, her daughter in law, Karen VanBuskirk, her son in law, James Laser.
Friends may call from 4 - 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at the Eastman Funeral Home, 49 West Main St., Greenwich and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday with Pastor Georgette Gaston officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwich Greenlawn Cemetery.
