SANDUSKY — Harley L. White, 88, of 1500 E. Bogart Road, Sandusky and formerly of Monroeville, died suddenly Sunday evening, May 25, 2008 in the Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky.
He was born May 6, 1920 in Norwalk and was a 1938 graduate of Norwalk High School and was a graduate of Tri State University in Angola, Indiana. Harley was a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII, serving in Iraq. He was employed as an electrician with NASA until his retirement.
In 1966, Harley was awarded the Monroeville Spectator “Citizen of the Year”, for his unselfish service to the welfare of his community. He was a life member of the V.F.W. Post 2743, Norwalk.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Mary M. Wilhelm, three daughters: Jane (William) Saettel of Medina, Janet (Jeff) Skaggs of Huron and Jackie (Matt Courtney) White of Philadelphia, PA., five grandchildren: Christopher, Nathan & Courtney Saettel, Lauren & Meredith Skaggs, nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents: Lewis & Natalie (Livengood) White, two sisters: Irma Schild and Leah Keirns, and one brother: Richard White.
Friends may call today (Wednesday) from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe Street, Monroeville, where funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday. Mr. David Schild, nephew of the deceased, will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Monroeville.
