ELYRIA — Gerald “Jerry” Hoerig, 72, of Elyria and formerly of Birmingham, died Thursday at Elyria Hospital. 

He was born June 23, 1935 in Tiffin. He had lived in Elyria for the last four years.

He was a 1953 graduate of Elyria High School, and had served in the Air Force. He worked as a maintenance manager at Bay Mechanical in Elyria, retiring in 1997. 

He was a member of the Wakeman Eagles #4354, American Legion Post #8 in Wellington, and the Huntington AMVETS Post 162.  

He is survived by his daughter, Kelly (Rick) Winland, of Elyria; a son, Brad (Debra) Hoerig, of Amherst; four grandchildren; three brothers, Melvin, Harold, and James Hoerig; and numerous nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Ruth (Bish) Hoerig, and a son, Kurt Hoerig. 

Friends may call from 5 p.m. until the time of memorial services at 7 at the Trinity Evangelical Free Church, 46485 Middle Ridge Road, Amherst. The Rev. Arnold R. Fleagle will officiate.

A private burial will take place in Wakeman Cemetery on a later date.
