Frances VanLaar Shaarda, 88, of Celeryville, died Saturday at Mercy Hospital of Willard.
She was born April 12, 1919 in Rock Valley, Iowa, to the late Gerald and Tena (Kooima) VanLaar.
She was a member of the Willard Christian Reformed Church where she played the organ for 62 years. She also played the piano for Celeryville Christian School for more than 40 years and taught in the school for 12 years. She had a love for music and working with flowers making center pieces and arrangements.
She is survived by five children: Gerald T. (Carla) Shaarda, of Machipongo, Va., Grace M. Shaarda, Jenison, Mich., Nelson J. (Margie) Shaarda, of Willard, Francine K (Jon Scott) Betts, of Plymouth, and Richard L. Bookwalter, of Florida; 13 grandchildren and many great grandchildren; one brother, John W. (Marge) VanLaar, of Celeryville.
She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Shaarda Jr., whom preceded her in death on June 7, 2000. her mother: Maajte Cok VanLaar; daughter, Deverly T. Bookwalter; and brother, Jacob VanLaar.
Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Willard Christian Reformed Church, Celeryville, where a Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Len Riemersma officiating.
Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery, New Haven.
