NEW WASHINGTON — Delmar “Del” Martin Blanton, 65, of New Washington, died Friday in Bucyrus Community Hospital.

He was born Aug. 11, 1942 in Swamp Branch, Ky., the son of William M. and Lillia V. (Caudill) Blanton.

He was an Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam Era. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans in Bucyrus.

 He enjoyed spending time with his family, going square dancing, watching the birds, and going to flea markets. He loved to read books, especially books on Angels.

 He contributed to the Rev. Schuller’s church in California, Crystal Cathedral. He was a great husband, father and papa and will be greatly missed.  

He is survived by his wife, Sara Blanton, whom he wed Sept. 10, 1966; a son, Trent Blanton of New Washington; a daughter and son-in-law, Bridget and Mark Hankins of Mansfield; a grandson, two stepgrandchildren and four stepgreat-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Elizabeth Alspach of New Washington; brothers, Tillma and Barb Blanton of Morgantown, W.Va. and Doug and Debbie Blanton of Warsaw, Ind.; a brother-in-law, Larry and Sandy Alspach of Galion; a sister-in-law, Wilma and Lee McClain of Upper Sandusky; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  

He was preceded in death by his parents, William M. and Lillia V. (Caudill) Blanton; father-in-law, Marion Alspach; and brother-in-law, Conrad Alspach.  

A private funeral service will be held on Sunday.
