NORWALK — Cecil Craft, 90, of North Fairfield, died Friday at Norwalk Memorial Home.
He was born Dec. 21, 1917, in Salyersville, Ky. to the late Lacy and Meldi (Ray) Craft. He moved to this area in 1941 from West Liberty, Ky.
In order to help feed his family, he quit school in the eighth grade and went to work in the coal mines.
He was also a member of the CCC, Civilian Conservation Corps, which was responsible for building roads after World War II. He retired from Westinghouse in Mansfield in 1980, and also worked as a carpenter for Bud Brady Construction Co. in Norwalk.
He was a member of the North Fairfield Masonic Lodge 261, and he enjoyed woodworking and fishing.
He is survived by his son, Paul (Christine) Craft of Sandusky; daughter Betty (Lowell) Brown of North Fairfield; and brothers Elmer Craft of Willard; Seldon (Mary) Craft of Norwalk; a sister, Daisy (Robert) Oney of Collins; and four grandchildren and six great- grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia M. Craft, in 2005; brothers, Eldon Craft, Clinton Craft and Ollie Craft; and sisters, Lizzy Craft, Tressie Arnett and Lula Wisecup.
Friends may call from noon until the time of service at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk. Burial will take place in Fairfield Township Cemetery, North Fairfield.
