NORWALK — Audrey M. Ashley, 85, of Port Clinton, died Monday afternoon in Gaymont Nursing Center.
She was born May 17, 1922 in Toledo, the daughter of the late Roy and Ida C. (Klitzke) Zinser. She came to this area 35 years ago from Denver.
She was a graduate of the Columbus School of Art and Pratt University in New York City. She was a self-employed artist, especially enjoying oils and watercolors.
She was a former employee of the Denver Post and Toledo Blade commercial art departments.
She published and illustrated several children’s books and was a co-founder of the former Catawba Art Gallery. She was a member of the Artist Club of Port Clinton and was active in the Arts in the Park program in Port Clinton.
She lived and breathed her art, having recently taken art classes at Terra Technical Institute.
She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Edward J. Ashley of Port Clinton; her sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and George Stephens of Norwalk; one niece, two nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
Private services will be held in Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk. Interment will be in Ottawa Hills Cemetery, Toledo.
