PLYMOUTH - Woodrow C. "Woody" Smith, 94, of Plymouth, died Wednesday in Hillside Acres Nursing Home in Willard.
He was born Oct. 10, 1912 in Virginia to the late Charles and Emma Catherine (Biller) Smith and had been a resident of Plymouth most of his life. He was employed at Fate-Root-Heath Company in Plymouth until his retirement in 1977. He also owned and operated a landscaping business in Plymouth for 40 years.
He was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Plymouth, a 60-year member of the Shelby Lodge 350, F&AM, Masons, Silver King Club, Plymouth Area Historical Society and served as assistant fire chief for the village of Plymouth. He enjoyed fishing, playing euchre and gardening.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Francine Smith of Plymouth; a daughter and a son-in-law, Jean and Douglas Dickson of Plymouth; four granddaughters; one brother, Robert D. Smith of Plymouth; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth G. Smith on March 27, 1988; a daughter, Deborah Smith, on April 10, 2007; a granddaughter, Lynn Smith, on July 23, 1973; and 11 brothers and sisters.
