SANDUSKY - William W. Smith, 89, residing at the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky, died Tuesday at his residence, following a lengthy illness.
He was born in Jersey City, NJ, and resided most of his life in Huron.
He was an Army veteran, serving during World War II. He was employed by U.S. Tsubaki, formerly Union Chain, for 43 years, retiring in 1982. He was past commander and a life member of the American Legion Post 83, Sandusky.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Carol Smith of Norwalk; and a daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Rick Weichel of Sandusky; two grandchildren and spouses, a great-granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fredrick and Lucille (Werner) Smith; first wife, Charlotte in 1957; second wife, Alyce in 2004; a brother, Fred; and a sister, Marjorie.
At his request, there will be no visitation or services, and cremation will take place at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky.
