Aug. 29, 1942 - Oct. 17, 2007
UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS - Thomas F. Allen, 65, of University Heights, died unexpectedly Wednesday.
He was born Aug. 29, 1942 in Norwalk, the only child of Katharine Elvira (Dennis) Allen and Aubrey A. Allen.
He graduated from Norwalk High School in 1960. He graduated from Yale University, magna cum laude, in 1965 and Yale Law School in 1968. He joined the law firm Squire, Sanders & Dempsey upon graduation, becoming a partner in 1978.
He left Squire, Sanders & Dempsey in 1991 to start his own law firm where he was active until his death. His many clients have lost a fine lawyer, advisor and friend.
In addition to his work, he was involved in many organizations on the national level. He joined the Garfield-Perry Stamp Club in early 1976 and served as president, secretary and, finally treasurer until his death.
He collected and exhibited philatelic material from Cleveland, Norwalk and the Civil War, winning many awards on his collection and exhibition of postal history contained in those collections.
He enjoyed music, and was generous to a fault with a wry sense of humor.
Private burial will take place today alongside his mother, Katharine Dennis Allen, at Woodlawn Cemetery in Norwalk.
A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Nov. 10 at St. Paul Episcopal Church, 4427 Franklin Boulevard, Cleveland Heights, with a reception following.
Memorial gifts may be sent in his name to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 2747 Fairmount Boulevard, Cleveland Heights, Ohio 44106.
