ENCINITAS, Calif. Thomas E. Weisenberger, 66, Encinitas, died April 20 at Scripps-Green Hospital, LaJolla, Calif., after battling cancer for a number of years.
Born and raised in Norwalk where, as a teenager, he worked at the family business, Bell Dairy, he moved to California in 1965 where he was employed as a Communications Engineer for Pacific Bell for 26 years.
He was a 1959 graduate of St. Paul High School and attended the University of Dayton.
Following his retirement in 1996, Weisenberger worked for the San Diego County Sheriff's Office as a senior volunteer. He was honored by that department in 2001 for Exemplary Performance.
He is survived by his former wife, Christy of Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter and son-in-law, Trina and David Zeljak of Carlsbad, Calif.; a son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Diane of Hayward, Calif.; four grandchildren; brothers, Jack of Norwalk, Ohio and Michael of Worthington, Ohio; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marjean and Donald Hohler, Janet and Chandos Gose and Margaret Weisenberger, all of Norwalk, and Mary Caponi of Sandusky; along with one uncle, four aunts and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marie (Culley) and Gilbert Weisenberger.
Services were held last Thursday at 10 a.m. at El Camino Memorial Chapel in Encinitas, Calif. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. May 4, at St. Paul's Catholic Church. The Rev. Frank Kehres will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery.
