MONROEVILLE Robert William Leber, 79, of Monroeville, died early Tuesday morning following an auto accident in Morrow County.
He was born Sept. 6, 1928 in Monroeville and was a 1946 graduate of Monroeville High School. He was an Army veteran, serving from 1950 to 1952. He was a lifelong farmer and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. John Neuman Chapter No.1117, Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post 547, all in Monroeville, and the V.F.W. Post in Norwalk. He was a former Monroeville school board president.
He was an avid sports enthusiast, as he closely followed his children's and grandchildren's activities, especially Monroeville Eagles sporting events. He also rooted for the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Indians.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, the former Kathleen Kehres, whom he married on June 18, 1955; sons, Thomas of Sandusky, Kenneth (Jeanne) of Norwalk, Leonard (Christine) of Westerville, Fredrick (Theresa) of Monroeville, and Harold (Mary) of Centerburg; 17 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; a brother, Karl Leber of Norwalk; and sisters, Helen Privett of Norwalk and Shirley (Art) Schalk of New Reigel.
He was preceded in death by her parents, Clayton and Martha Janet (Baker) Leber; and a sister, Alice Hintz.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe St., Monroeville, where a Christian wake service for the family will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday. A burial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 66 Chapel St., Monroeville with the Rev. Kenneth J. Lill officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Monroeville.
