GREENWICH Robert L. Hopkins, 84, of Greenwich died Friday morning at his home after a short illness.
He was born Dec. 29, 1922 in Greenwich, son of the late Lincoln Ross and Gladys (Miller) Hopkins. He was a lifelong Greenwich resident.
He was a 1941 graduate of Greenwich High School and a 1943 graduate of the Oberlin School of Commerce. He had worked for Ernst & Ernst in Cleveland as an accountant for three years, the LeRoi Corp. of Greenwich from 1946 until 1960 and in 1960 he and his wife started their own accounting business, the R.L. Hopkins Public Accounting in Greenwich. He retired in 1988. He was a member of the Greenwich United Methodist Church and the Greenwich Rotary, where he received the Paul Harris Fellow, May 1, 2007. He was a former Greenwich Township Clerk for 25 years, a former member of the Greenwich School Board, and he served on the Board of Directors of Willard Memorial Hospital and Hillside Acres Nursing Home, Willard.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanne (Egner) Hopkins, whom he married Oct. 10, 1943; two sons, Kenneth (Donna) Hopkins of Vermilion, Dan (Betty) Hopkins of Litchfield; a daughter, Cynthia (Paul) Keinath of Dublin, Ohio; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Eleanor M. Foster and Jane E. Ferrell.
