NEW LONDON - Robert Eugene Dee, Sr., 79, of New London, died Thursday at his home, surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness.
He was born March 9, 1928 in Hartford City, Ind., son of the late Tim and Thelma (Fuller) Dee. He was a 1946 graduate of Hartford City High School. He played football and baseball in high school and was captain of both teams, and he played softball after graduation. Dee worked at his father's grocery store while growing up in Hartford City. He worked for Overhead Door Corp. in Hartford City and Carol Stream, Ill. He moved to New London in 1970. He then went to work for Whiting Roll Up Door Corp of Akron, N.Y. having retired in 1996. He was a member of Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church, New London. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, where he held several offices, and was past president of Our Lady Of Lourdes Parish Council. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and golfing.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Casterline) Dee, whom he married in 1949; sons and daughter-in-law, Robert Dee, Jr. of New London and Greg and Cathy Dee of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Rick Copsey of Ludington, Mich. and Amy and Alan Cawrse of New London; daughter-in-law, Lynn Dee of New London; 10 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, Tim Dee in 2006, and a brother, Larry Dee.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., with a rosary service at 8 p.m., Sunday at the Eastman Funeral Home, 200 West Main St., New London.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 18 Park Ave., New London with the Rev. Doug Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, New London.
