NORWALK - Rita M. Smith, 85, of Norwalk, died Wednesday morning at Norwalk Memorial Home.

She was born Jan. 30, 1922 in Norwalk to the late Joseph F. and Emma (Smith) Haar and was a lifelong area resident.

She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. She and her husband, Cletus, were founders of Smith's Tree Service in 1958, for which she served as bookkeeper for 43 years. She was a former employee of Norwalk Truck Lines. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Andrew P. and Linda Smith of Norwalk and Gregg C. and Julia Smith of Norwalk; her daughters and sons-in-law, Betty J. Smith-Dawson and Terry Dawson of Norwalk and Linda M. and Don Edwards of Norwalk; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Cletus C. Smith in 1975; and a brother, Paul Haar.

Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk, where prayer services will be held at 6:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main St., Norwalk. The Rev. David Cirata will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery.
