WILLARD - Oliver J. "OJ" Phillips, 87, of Willard died Friday at his North Greenfield Road residence.
He was born March 4, 1920 in Havana, the son of the late Clarence and Victoria (Holmer) Phillips.
He retired in 1987 from the U.S. Postal Service Willard RR No. 2 and also farmed. He was a World War II Army veteran, 729th railroad operations battalion, and a member of St. Gaspar del Bufalo Church, VFW, Willard American Legion and the Farm Bureau, as well as a Norwich Towship zoning board member.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Margaret (Camp) Phillips, whom he married June 28, 1941 in Monroeville; a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Nancy Phillips of Willard; daughters and sons-in-law, Carol Daniel of Willard, Elaine and Danny Young of Willard, Connie and Steve Carpenter of Fremont; and 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Florence Eldred-Arndt; a son-in-law, Raymond Daniel; and a grandson, David Young.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Foos and Son Funeral Home, where the Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. A funeral Mass will take place at 10 :30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Gaspar del Bufalo Church, 16209 County Road 46, Bellevue. Burial will follow in St. Sebastian Cemetery.
