Mercedes (Graber) Beat, 83, of Attica, died Wednesday at Stein Hospice Care Center in Sandusky.

She was born Oct. 12, 1923 in Foster to the late George and Marvel (Halfhill) Graber. On Oct. 4, 1947 at Fostoria, she married Harold Beat and he survives. They would have been married 60 years in October.

She was a member of Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Attica, the Altar Rosary Society. She served as a 4-H advisor for over 30 years. She received the first Irene Martin Attica Fair Service Award for outstanding dedication to the Attica Fair in 1993 and the 2001 Community Service Award by the Seneca East Young Farmers. She was a past member of the Attica Lioness and Lions Club. She served many meals at the Knights of Columbus Hall and Church dinners, and the Dairy Bar at the Seneca County Fair. She assisted her husband on the family farm for many years.

She is survived by her husband, daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and Richard Hillman of Davisburg, Mich., Marlene Beat of Avonlake, Charlene and Fred Bono of St. Charles, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Anthony (Dolores) Beat of Bryan, Texas; sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey Beat of Port Clinton, Gregory and Opal Beat and Mark and Cindy Beat of Attica; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Henry Graber; and a son, Anthony Beat.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Lindsey-Olds Funeral Home, 3085 S. Ohio 19, Bloomville, a Christian Wake Service will take place at 8 p.m. at the funeral home. A Funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church in Attica. The Rev. Joseph Szybka will officiate. Burial will be at a later date at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Attica.
