AMHERST — Marie Esther Young (Bringman), 92, of Amherst, died Friday at her home following a brief illness.
She was born Aug. 3, 1914 in Vermilion. She was raised in Brownhelm Township. She had made her home in Amherst for the last 30 years.
Young was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst and the Catholic Golden Ager's. After raising her children, Marie went on to receive her high school diploma and then her degree in practical nursing from Lorain St. Joseph School of Nursing. She was employed at Allen Memorial Hospital in Oberlin for 25 years. She was member of the Lorain Salvation Army and the Amherst Homemakers Club. She enjoyed making crafts, crossword puzzles, reading and politics.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law Kenneth L. and Rae Young, of Lorain; daughter-in-law Janet Young, of Oberlin, and son-in-law Carl Camp of Norwalk; six grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; her brother Bill Bringman, of Amherst; sisters Kathryn Koepp, of Amherst, and Shirley Rogers, of Walnut, Calif., and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Cecil Gordon Young March 18, 1992; her son Gordon Keith Young in 1993; her daughter Joan Camp on May 4, 1995; her grandson Mark Young; her sisters Ruth Fischer and Margaret Schibley; and by her parents Peter and Theresa Bringman (Nagle).
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Closing prayers will take place 9:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home followed by a mass of Christian burial 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. The Rev. Joseph Warner, associate pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Brownhelm Cemetery, Brownhelm Township.
