HURON Leonard B. Cooksey, 85, of Huron, died Sunday at the Norwalk Memorial Home after a lengthy illness.

He was born Jan. 1, 1922 in Bowling Green, Ky., and had lived in Huron for 51 years moving from Lorain. He was a veteran of the United States Army.

He worked as a carpenter for American Ship, Lorain. He was a life member of VFW Post 7576, Vermilion. He enjoyed fishing.

Survivors include daughters, Beatrice Squire of Lansing, Mich., and Barbara Cooksey of Huron; sons, Garland Cooksey of Huron, Noah Cooksey of Salida, Colo., Alven Cooksey of Sandusky; and two grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Bonnie Cooksey, on Oct 21, 2003; his parents; infant twins; and sisters, Ivell, Virginia and Kathryn .

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South St., Vermilion, where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military services at 6:30 p.m. and funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. Saturday. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion
