WILLARD — Kenneth S. Baxter, 88, of Willard, died Sunday at Willard Health Care.
He was born Aug. 13, 1918 in Huron County to the late Ernest L. and Hazel I. (Carnahan) Baxter.
He graduated as salutatorian from New Haven High School in 1937. He graduated from the Hemphill Diesel Engineering School, Detroit, Mich. He was a veteran of the Army, serving in Germany including during the Battle of the Bulge as a technical sergeant.
He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 706 in North Fairfield for many years. He retired from farming and enjoyed collecting Silver King and restoring antique farm tractors. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and watching sports on TV.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Evelyn M. (Shade) Baxter; a son and daughter-in-law, Raymond and Monica Baxter of Willard; a grandson and spouse of Willard and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Joyce Baxter in infancy; and a brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Georgia Baxter.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of the memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Lindsey-Kocher Funeral Service, 323 Myrtle Ave., Willard. The Rev. David Horst of the Huron Valley Mennonite Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Greenfield Cemetery, Steuben.
