NORWALK - Joseph A. Ruffing, 85 of Norwalk, died early Sunday morning at Fisher-Titus Medical Center. He was born March 19, 1922 in Bellevue, son of the late Anthony and Anna Ruffing, and was a lifelong area resident.
He attended Norwalk First Baptist Church. He was a member of the Fremont Moose Lodge. He retired in 1986 from Kelsey/Hayes Foundry in Fremont. He enjoyed raising birds, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis Ruffing, Delmar and Tammy Ruffing, Daryl and Tamera Ruffing and Dana and Kim Ruffing, all from Vickery; daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Clayton Brunnet of Perrysburg; 22 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; stepsons and their spouses, Edward A. and Sandy Van Vlerah of Norwalk, Richard L. and Denise Van Vlerah of Norwalk, and Thomas D. and Melissa Van Vlerah of Antwerp; and stepdaughters and their spouses, Debra and Duke Clonch of Vickery, and Tammy and David Rang Of Kannapolis, N.C.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy L. Ruffing, three days earlier; and a grandson, Jonathon Paul Ruffing in 2002.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Walker Funeral Home, 98 W. Main St., Norwalk, where funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Paul Lamb officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
