RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA, Calif. - Jay H. "Bud" Berezin, 79, formerly of Charlotte, N.C. and Norwalk, Ohio, died Sunday at Rancho Santa Margarita after a lengthy illness.
He was a World War II veteran of the Navy (where he served on the USS Block Island) and both the Navy and the Army Reserves.
He was a 1945 graduate of Norwalk High School and attended Western Reserve University in Cleveland, where he studied history. He returned to Norwalk to become owner of the Fashion Shoppe with his father, Harry Berezin. After moving to Charlotte in 1980, he was an insurance representative with Southern Group Insurance. He enjoyed sailing, playing piano and listening to jazz music, duplicate bridge, history, dancing, and the challenge of the daily crossword puzzle (in pen).
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Rona Sedley Berezin, currently of Rancho Santa Margarita; children, Lisa Berezin and her husband John Hickman of Arlington, Mass., Jeff Berezin of Manlius, N.Y., Steven Berezin and his wife Anna Berezin of Mission Viejo, Calif., Chip Berezin and his wife Anat Shiloach of Trumbull, Conn.; nine grandchildren; and many other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Bess Berezin; and a sister, Evelyn Berezin Miller.
Services will be held Wednesday at Congregation Eilat, 22081 Hidalgo, in Mission Viejo, Calif. He will later be buried at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery.
