MILAN - James W. Horner, 72, of Milan, died Monday at his residence unexpectedly.
He was born Feb. 27, 1935 in Brownsville, Pa. and had been a resident of the Huron area since 1956 coming from Pennsylvania.
He co-owned Horner and Hibbard Construction Co. in Berlin Heights from 1978 to 1982 and was C.E.O. of Horner Construction from 1982 to 1991, retiring in 2001.
He was a Marine Corp veteran of the Korean Conflict and served as a corporal.
He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Huron; a life member of the VFW in Lorain, Huron Eagles, Norwalk Moose Lodge and the Lorain American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and boating, gardening and following NFL football.
He is survived by his loving companion, Shirley Pozega; a daughter, Cynthia (Kane) Durfey of Huron; sons, James M. (Cynthia) Horner of Norwalk, Joseph W. (Elise) Horner of Monroeville, Michael J. (Brenda) Horner of Huron, and Mathew Horner of Huron; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sister, Phyllis Ann (Donald) Nickles of Milan; and a brother, David D. (Marilyn) Horner of Norwalk.
He was preceded in death by his wife Angela (Legando) Horner in 1990; parents, Ralph G. and Effie Lenora (Hawkins) Horner; and stepfather, Joseph Fekete.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Foster Funeral Home, 410 Main St., Huron. A funeral Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Peter Catholic Church, 430 Main Street, Huron, with the Rev. Jeffery Sikorski officiating.
