NORWALK - James H. Ward Sr., 84, of Norwalk, died Tuesday at Fisher-Titus Medical Center in Norwalk.
He was born Aug. 1, 1922, in Norwalk to the late Alvin H. and Myrtle (Dann) Ward.
He served in the Army from 1940 until 1945. He was the oldest active and a lifetime member of the Norwalk VFW Post 2743 since 1943. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 41, Eagles Aerie 711, Norwalk Elks and Moose Lodge 1248. He enjoyed baseball, bowling and golfing. He worked at Norwalk Furniture for 38 years, and only missed two days of work.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Rogers of Collins; a son and daughter-in-law, James and Shirley Ward Jr. of Milan; and four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Iva Jane (Felter) Ward; and a half-brother, Fred Gill.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main St., Norwalk, where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Kenneth Blystone will officiate. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery with military honors.
