MESA, Ariz. - James Arthur Parcell, 59, of Mesa, died Monday.
He was born Dec. 3, 1947 and grew up in Madison, Ohio. He spent much of his adult life in Austin, Texas. He moved to the Phoenix area in May 2006 to be closer to his son.
He graduated from Kent State University and served in the Ohio National Guard.
He was an educator and a journalist, previously working for the Sandusky Register, and most recently worked with his son in the golf vacation industry in Glendale, Ariz.
He was an avid reader, golfer and long-suffering Cleveland Browns fan. His greatest joys in life were his family, writing and teaching. He was an 18 handicapper, but really golfed for the conversation, humor and camaraderie.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Michelle Parcell of Phoenix; sisters and brothers-in-law, Brenda and Tom Dugan of Madison, Susan and Pete Sawczuk of Perry, Joy and Jeff Centrich of Painesville; a granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Glenna Parcell; and his sister, Lynda Karmine.
A private service will be held at a later date. His ashes will be spread at his favorite golf course, last played on Father's Day of this year.
