SANDUSKY James A. Knallay, 80, of Sandusky, died Monday at his home.
He was born Dec. 24, 1926 in East Cleveland and served in the Navy.
He served as an Erie County Deputy Sheriff for five years before joining the Milan Police Department, where he served for 12 years, with the last three years as chief. He retired in 1973 after open heart surgery.
He attended Edison Memorial United Methodist Church, Milan, and was a member of the American Legion Post 527, Milan, and Milan Lodge No. 239 F. & A.M.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn "Kay" (Reider) Knallay, whom he married in 1977; daughters, Jeanie Holzmiller and LuAnn Gatton, both of Norwalk; a son, James W. Knallay of Bradner; nine grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lucille (Misner) Knallay; a daughter, Linda Knallay; a sister, Elsie Mason; and a brother, Robert Knallay.
There will be no visitation, at his request cremation has taken place in the Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky.
