FRANKLIN, Ind. - Joan Linn Brutsche, 72, of Franklin, died Sunday at her residence. She was a resident of the Franklin United Methodist Community.
She was born June 26, 1934, at Chasta Beach in Erie County, Ohio to the late Dr. George and Nina (Jordan) Linn.
She attended Norwalk public schools in Norwalk, Ohio and Flora Stone Mather School of Nursing-Case Western Reserve, graduating in 1957. She was a 1960 graduate of The Ohio State University, where she received a master of science in nursing.
She taught nursing at Ball State University in 1963. She went on to become a Surgical Nurse at University Hospital in Columbus, Ohio; School Nurse in Columbus; 1970 Public Health Nurse in Darke County, Ohio and a diabetes educator in Greenville, Ohio.
She was a founding member of the International Association of Diabetic Athletes, an active member of the Dayton area Diabetes Association and member and past president of the Western Ohio Association of Diabetic Educators. She also coordinated support groups for diabetics and lobbied state and national legislators on behalf of diabetics.
She is survived by her husband, Phillip Brutsche, whom she married Aug. 29, 1958 in Norwalk; a daughter, Paula Kutcher of Cincinnati; a sister, Sarah Linn Korbecki of Carol Stream, Ill.; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Racheal Brutsche; and a brother, Dr. George Linn Jr.
The Rev. Edna Stahl will conduct a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Norwalk.
