SANDUSKY — Helen M. Buckingham, 89, of Sandusky, died Tuesday in the Firelands Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was born June 27, 1918 in Sandusky to William and Elsa Milligan. She was a 1936 graduate of Sandusky High School and a life-long resident of Sandusky. She was employed at the former Peoples Loan and Savings from 1936 through 1949. In 1949 she married Frank H. Buckingham. She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Sandusky, since 1936. She also was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Firelands Hospital, having volunteered at the Hospital Gift Shop.
She is survived by her sister, Virginia (Sam) Holland, and a niece, Kathleen Dewitt, both of Ponte Vedre, Fla.; two nephews: Tom Holland of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Bob Holland of Germany; a daughter-in-law, Linda Buckingham, of Monroeville; and a step-daughter, Janis Goodsite, of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank H. Buckingham in 1971; her parents, one step-son, Thomas S. Buckingham; and one step daughter, Joanne Brindley.
Graveside funeral services for the family were held today in the Riverside Cemetery, Monroeville. The Rev. Donald Brown of Salem United Methodist Church officiated. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salem United Methodist Church, corner of Wayne and Division Street, Sandusky.
