WILLARD — Harriet L. Miller, 95, of New Haven, died Saturday at Liberty Hillside Nursing Home in Willard.

She was born Dec. 22, 1912, in Lorain, Ohio to Charles Glenn and Lottie (Magill) Babcock. On Sept. 1, 1939 she married Robert S. Miller, who preceded her in death in 1986.

She graduated from Ashland College and taught school for more than 35 years, many of them in the Shelby City School system. Many of her former students still remembered her and visited her frequently.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Willard, and was very active for many years including Sunday school superintendent and teaching Sunday school. She also belonged to the Retired Teachers Association in both Huron and Richland counties and was a member of the New Haven Sunshine Farm Women’s  Club.

She was recognized by Ashland College for being a 75-year graduate, Class of 1932. Her hobbies included crocheting (especially afghans), counted cross-stitch, cross word puzzles, and her many orchids and flowers.

 She is survived by two brothers, Richard (Alice) Babcock and Roger (Pauline) Babcock, both of New Haven, along with many special nieces and nephews who will miss her “always being there.” She was an inspiration to many others.

Several preceded her in death, including her parents, sister, Helen Nestor, brother, LeRoy Babcock, and a special nephew, Glenn Babcock, who assisted her for several years so that she could remain in her home.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Lindsey-Kocher Funeral Service, 323 Myrtle Ave, Willard. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church, 401 E. Howard St., Willard with the Rev. Ken Gifford officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in New Haven.
