SANDUSKY - Harlow C. Matz, 98, of Sandusky and formerly of Milan, died Tuesday at Parkvue Healthcare Center.
He was born Feb. 20, 1909, the son of the late Earl and Emma (Kistler) Matz in Bellevue, where he lived during his youth.
He was a 1930 graduate of Heidelberg College in Tiffin. He then taught math and science at Margaretta High School in Castalia and later in Fremont. He earned his Masters degree from The Ohio State University in 1936.
In 1943 he joined Union Carbide in Cleveland and continued a career in management in Charlotte, N.C., Cleveland, Bennington, Vt. and retired in 1974 as plant manager in Athens, Greece.
Survivors include his daughter, Constance Kevil of Stamford, Conn. and a granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Martha W. (Zieber) Matz, whom he married June 10, 1933 in Bellevue and who died Nov. 22, 1996; a daughter, Carol Hicks; and a brother and three sisters.
Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesday at Harris-Foos Funeral Home, 289 W. Main St., Bellevue, where the funeral will be held at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Jane-Ann Clarke of First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Flat Rock Cemetery, Flat Rock.
