Feb. 1, 1912 - June 5, 2007

NORWALK - Fremont A. Holmes, 95, died June 5 in Fisher-Titus Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 1, 1912 in Benson, Minn., son of the late Floyd and Eunice (Barnes) Holmes and lived most of his life in the Wakeman area.

He was a graduate of Fenn College with a Mechanical and Electrical Engineering degree. He was a member of the Wakeman Congregational Church and Gibson Lodge NO. 301 F. & A.M. He was a former volunteer for the Wakeman P.T.A. He was a former employee of the Thu Shovel Company in Lorain and retried from the Cadillac Tank Plant in Cleveland where he worked on guidance systems for the Minuteman and Polaris Missile systems and tool design. He had worked as a consultant for Cadillac Tank for several years after his retirement. He enjoyed woodworking, antiques, building grandfather clocks, traveling and vacationing in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan with his family.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Charles E. and Nettie Holmes of Willard; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia L. and Wayne Smith of Norwalk; three grandchildren, one step granddaughter and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Luella M. Holmes in 1986; brothers, Harry F. Holmes and Eugene Holmes; and a sister, Ella McPheters.

Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wakeman Cemetery. The Rev. Edgar Shelley will officiate.
