SHEFFIELD VILLAGE Eugene R. Essex, 55, died May 26 at his home in Florsheim, Germany following a brief bought with cancer.
He was an inventor and world traveler, having worked for leading technology companies such as Bose, Hyundai, and the Sony Corp.
He was the husband of Beverley Essex (Weisniski). The youngest of four, he was born March 9, 1952 in Elyria to Carl and Dorothy Essex (Klamut). He graduated from Midview High School in 1970, and attended Lorain County Community College before serving in Korea with the U.S. Army . After completing his military service, he began a career which enabled him to livethroughout Asia and Europe and stateside in San Antonio, Dallas, and Tuscon.
Eugene, son of former long time Lorain County Recorder Dorothy L. Essex, is survived by his wife Beverley, his children Ryan and Lauren, sisters Sandra Bishop of Batavia,Ohio, Elizabeth A. McMullen of Naperville, Illinois, and brother Carl D. Essex of Norwalk. He was preceded in death in 2005 by his father, Carl.
Eugene was a devoted father and husband. His generous spirit always put the wants and needs of others ahead of his own. As a result of his global travels and kind spirit he managed to touch the hearts of people all over the world.
He was an avid photographer and audiophile, having these skills working along side his father in the 1960s at the family's Essex Electronics of Elyria and Lorain. Wherever Eugene went he found ways to give of himself through numerous community volunteer activities or simple random acts of kindness on behalf of friends and neighbors.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Bauer-Laubenthal Funeral Home, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Road Elyria. Prayers will recited at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Sheffield. Burial will follow at Saint Theresa of Avila Cemetery, 1878 Abbe Road, Sheffield Village.
