NORWALK Elizabeth A. (Hummon) Woodward, 85, of Norwalk, died of cancer, Wednesday at Fisher-Titus Medical Center, Norwalk.
She was born Dec. 27, 1921 in Leipsic, and lived in Norwalk for most of her life.
She graduated in 1940 from Norwalk High School, 1943 from The Ohio State University, and received a masters degree in 1977 from Bowling Green State University. She taught 26 years in New London, retiring in 1988. She was also involved in teaching evening classes at Firelands College in 1977 and 1978, and a Research Club that organized in 1928, which she became a member in 1947.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Norwalk since 1934, the Naomi-Ruth Circle and the Dorcas Circle. She was also a member of Phi Delta Kappa, Delta Kappa Gamma, American Association of University Women, American Vocational Association and Huron County Retired Teachers.
She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Albert Wagner of North Canton, Charlotte Ann Wagner of Norwalk, and Catherine and William Sexten of Aitkin, Minn.; a daughter-in-law, Sarah Woodward of Berea; a sister, Sue Bosworth of Portland, Ore.; a brother and sister-in-law, Guy and Lu Hummon of Tucson, Ariz.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren,; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Woodward in 1991; a son, Charles A. Woodward II in 1980; a sister, Mary Marjory Hummon in 1974; and parents, Guy A. Hummon in 1992 and Jane I. (Beach) Hummon in 1998; and a brother-in-law, Duane A. Bosworth in 2004.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Evans Funeral Home, 314 E. Main St., Norwalk, where the funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. Monday. The Rev. Roger E. Smith, pastor of First United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Milan Cemetery.
