GREENWICH Earl R. Hartley, age 76, of Greenwich, died Monday from injuries sustained in an auto accident in Norwalk.

Hartley was born Oct. 8, 1930 in New London, son of the late, Earl M. & Gladys (Sheets) Hartley. He grew up in the Shelby and Plymouth area. Earl had lived in Greenwich for more than 50 years. He was a 1949 Ashland High School graduate and had served in the U.S. Navy.

He was a sales representative for the former Shelby Business Forms (Miami Business Systems) and retired in 2003 from CRI of Shelby. He was a member of Greenwich United Methodist Church, where he was a lay speaker, taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. He had served on the Greenwich village council. He had officiated high school football and basketball for many years. He was an avid golfer.

He is survived by his wife of more than 50 years, Mary Beth (Bowen) Hartley; a daughter, Lynne Hartley Phillips of Greenwich; three sons, Scott (Jody) Hartley of Delaware, Brian (Paula) Hartley of Grand Rapids, Mich., and Kelly Hartley of Columbus; six grandchildren; and one great grandson; a half- sister, Bunetta Coats of Pa; and a half-brother, James of Ga.

He was preceded in death by a son, Steven E. Hartley in 1973; a brother, Richard Hartley; step mother, Alice Hartley; 2 half sisters, Diana Robinson and Julie Hartley.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Eastman Funeral Home, 49 W. Main St., Greenwich. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Greenwich United Methodist Church with Pastor Georgette Gaston officiating. Burial will follow in Edwards Grove Cemetery, Greenwich.
