MONROEVILLE Earnest F. Nixon, 86, of Monroeville died peacefully Monday morning in the Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky following a brief illness.

He was born Jan. 7, 1921 in Scotch Ridge, Wood County, Ohio. He attended Webster School and Bowling Green State University, then enlisted into the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he served during World War II. He was happily married to Catherine M. Smith on July 9, 1943. He was a lifelong farmer. He and his wife enjoyed traveling and spending time with their family. Other hobbies were reading, woodworking and golfing.

He is survived by one daughter, Betty (Roger) Dickman, of Monroeville; two sons, Allen (Pat) Nixon, of Berea, and John (Darlene) Nixon, of Monroeville; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; nieces; nephews and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine M. Nixon in Feb. 2007; his parents, John and Minnie (Cross) Nixon; three brothers; and one sister.

Services were held Wednesday at the Church of The Nazarene, 4013 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. The Rev. David Flack officiated. Burial was in Sand Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870
