NEW LONDON - E. Irene Bailey, 101, died Wednesday at The Rehabilitation and Nursing Center at Firelands in New London.

She was born May 12, 1905, in Morrow County to the late Adam B. and Maude (Shambaugh) Rinehart.

She was a graduate of Crestline High School, Ohio University in Athens and Ashland College. She was a teacher and had also worked at the former C.E. Ward Company of New London.

She was a member of the New London United Methodist Church, the New London Garden Club, and the former Women's Relief Corp. She and her husband were founders of the Avion Travelcade Club, for which she was a 47-year member. She was also a 75 year member of the Eastern Star, where she had served as Worthy Matron.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Eugene Bilton of Norwalk; a son and his companion, Dean Bailey and Yvonne Westover of New London; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Geneva Hoffman of Mansfield and Gertrude Garverick of Galion; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Charlotte the dog.

She was preceded in death by her husband, D.V. Bailey; brothers, Cleon, Edwin, Harry and Milford; sisters, Naomi and Leona; and daughter-in-law, Phyllis Bailey.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Eastman Funeral Home, 200 W. Main St., New London, where services will begin at 4 p.m. The Rev. Cathy Ake, pastor of the New London United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, Sullivan.
