NORWALK Dale McCreery, 99, of Milan and formerly of Norwalk, died Monday morning in Fisher-Titus Medical Center.

He was born May 1, 1907 in Vickery to the late Carmi and Maude (Stout) McCreery.

He was a 1925 graduate of Fremont High School and was a member of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Norwalk. He was a 60-year member of Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge No. 64, Norwalk and was a 56-year member of Eagles Aerie No. 711, Norwalk. He was a veteran of the Army National Guard.

He was a former truck driver and mechanic for Norwalk Truck Lines, retiring in 1969 and had also worked at Linwood Garage in Norwalk. As a young man he was paid $1 per week to light the fire at the one-room school in Vickery and had worked at Stacey's Dairy, for the railroad at the Vickery side track, at Wahl Construction, at Bennett Flying Service in Kansas City giving flight lessons, at Herbrand Forging Plant in Fremont, and drove semi-truck with his brother.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Sue McCreery of Milan with whom he made his home for the last four years and Dale C. and Dorothy McCreery of League City, Texas; three granddaughters and their spouses and three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eileen Zimmerman of Fremont.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Ethel (Rudy) McCreery in 1998; brothers, Carlton "Tiny" McCreery, Harold McCreery, Clarence McCreery in infancy; and a sister, Mildred McCreery at age 13.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service at noon Friday at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, 243 Benedict Ave., Norwalk. The Rev. Fred Wiechers will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Memory Gardens, Clyde.
