PLYMOUTH - Cleta J. Smith, 87, of Mansfield, and formerly of Plymouth, died Tuesday at her home.
She was born Nov. 18, 1919 in Bloomington, daughter of the late Joseph and Clara (Williams) Lasch, and had been a Plymouth resident most of her life.
She was a graduate of Plymouth High School and Ashland College. She earned her teaching degree and taught second grade in the Plymouth-Shiloh School District for many years. She is a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Plymouth and was a charter member of the Shelby Cloverleaf Square Dance Club.
She is survived by her husband, Max W. Smith, Sr. who, she married Feb. 7, 1942; sons and daughters-in-law, Max W. Jr. and Susan Smith of Mansfield, and Thomas and Sharon Smith of Riverview, Fla.; daughters and sons-in-law, Susan and Timothy Redden of Plymouth, and Ellen and Scottie Smith of Plymouth; and eight grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her twin brother, Clyde Lasch; and another brother, Joseph Lasch.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Secor Funeral Home in Plymouth. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Plymouth with the Revs. Leonard Shatkus and Bonnie Peltomaa officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Plymouth.
