BELLEVUE Chelton Paul McElwain, 83, of Bellevue, died Saturday at Edgewood Manor Nursing Home in Port Clinton.
He was born Dec. 3, 1923 in Braxton County, W.Va. to the late George Raymond and Opal (Mollohan) McElwain.
He retired in Dec. 1986 from the Clevite Corp. in Milan. He was the former owner of the Vickery Tavern a member of the Bellevue Elks; Eagles and VFW and the American Legion in Monroeville. He was a life member of the Bellevue Moose.
Paul received the Purple Heart while serving in the Navy during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Frances (Lovins) Wilder-McElwain; sons, Paul A. McElwain and David (Melissa) McElwain, both of Bellevue; daughters, Cherylle (Alfonso) Rossi and Candyce (Alan) Meyer, both of Bellevue; step children, William Wilder of Bellevue and Susan O'Brien of Clyde; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sisters, Marie Yahnert of Warren, Helen Heath of Bellevue, Doris Madsen of Cape Coral, Fla.; and Connie Rein, Chardon; and a brother, James McElwain of Windsor.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Bollinger McElwain, whom he married Nov. 1947 and who died in 1972.
Private family services will be held.
