BELLEVUE - Charles R. "Bates" Mira, 79, of Bellevue, died unexpectedly Friday at his home.
He was born June 17, 1928 in Bellevue, son of the late Joseph R. Mira and Rose (Triona) Mira-Ware.
Bates graduated from Bellevue High School in 1946. He entered the Navy in 1946 and was discharged in 1948.
He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Bellevue; the VFW in Bellevue and the Club Amerital; and had served on the board of the former IAB Club in Sandusky. He was a special consultant for the Bellevue Beer Dock Lounge and Pizza Room and Charlie's Drive Thru, Bellevue.
His family was a great enjoyment and love for him including numerous in-laws in the large Muratori family in Sandusky.
He retired in 1987 from the Ford Motor Co. in Sandusky, where he had been a supervisor and worked for 31 years. Prior to Ford, he had worked for the N&W Railroad. He also owned and operated the Mira's Caf and its successor the Mardi Gras Lounge.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dora (Muratori) Mira, whom he married on April 24, 1954; daughters, Cheryl A. Mira, Belleville, Mich., Denise M. (Michael R.) Widner of Northwood, and Lisa M. Mira of Bellevue; a son, Charles J. Mira (DeeAnn Tilley) of Holland; five grandchildren; brothers, Anthony J. Mira, Carl J. (RoseAnna) Mira, James J. Mira, Joseph W. (Pat) Mira, all of Bellevue; and a sister, Rosemary Klinski of Bellevue.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Theresa M. Anderson.
Friends may call from 1 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Auxter Funeral Home, 1105 Castalia St., Bellevue, where the rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. A funeral Mass will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Bellevue with the Rev. Keith Stripe officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bellevue.
